A Guide to Securing Networks for Wi-Fi

Original release date: March 15, 2017

Overview

This guide presents leading practices and technical guidance on the wireless technologies commonly referred to as Wi-Fi. Although this guide does not discuss commercial mobile networks, it covers wireless threats that are universal to all networks.

DHS advises deploying a wireless intrusion detection system (WIDS) and wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) on every network. WIDS and WIPS can detect and automatically disconnect unauthorized devices on wireless networks. Other recommendations describe security controls that can work together to mitigate threats.
